• Pearson Connects to the Land

Mitigating climate change one step at a time.

At Toronto Pearson, we don’t just look for ways to improve how we connect people to places: we look for ways to improve the land we occupy.

While runways, buildings and roadways make up approximately two-thirds of our airport’s land, we are conscious of the fact that open space and creek valleys make up the rest. That’s why we are undertaking mitigation initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

By 2020, our GHG program is targeting a 20 per cent reduction of emissions, but we aren’t stopping there. At Toronto Pearson we aim high: by 2050, we are targeting an 80 per cent reduction of emissions.

To help accomplish this, we are making several updates to the way we operate. Through our energy reduction program, we promise to save more than 3 million kWh annually – the equivalent of taking 266 cars off the road for a year.
