Airside Safety Week 2024

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Toronto Pearson airport community for their participation and engagement in this year’s Airside Safety Week. While the event has come to an end for 2024, we continue to nurture the spirit of its theme, Safety Always. We encourage all airport workers and people leaders to keep a safety-oriented mindset and to support our collective initiatives that mitigate aviation hazards.

On-site activities like the Safety Road-eo, Apron and Runway Safety Forum and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk were highlights in a week of engaging, educational programming. Many lucky winners were awarded over a thousand dollars in cash prizes for participating in our in-person and online contests and quizzes.

Airside Safety Week 2024

Toronto Pearson’s Airside Safety Week is a weeklong event that educates and engages our airside teams about aviation-related hazards and ways to report and mitigate them. From September 16 to 20, 2024, Pearson airside employees and other employees who hold an airside access RAIC (purple) are encouraged to participate in our on-site activities, which include brand new events as well as old favorites. Be sure to register before the deadlines pass!

Our theme for 2024 is Safety Always. This year’s on-site and online programming reminds us that aviation safety protocols are woven into all aspects of the work we do airside. From the gate to the runway, safety is always our top priority!

Who is responsible for Aviation Safety?

We all have a role to play in ensuring aviation safety and keeping the airside safe is crucial to the daily operations at Toronto Pearson.

Aviation safety is a collaborative effort between various stakeholders who work on the apron, runways and taxiways and ensure safe aircraft movement around the airport. These stakeholders include but are not limited to:

  • Ground handlers and their trainers and supervisors
  • Pilots
  • Air traffic controllers
  • Airside drivers
  • GTAA airfield maintenance and airfield electrical
  • Wildlife Control Officers
  • External contractors working airside

How to participate

In person

We are excited to announce that, in addition to favourite activities from previous years, like the Safety Fair, Safety Road-eo and FOD walk, this year’s event has expanded to include events dedicated to air traffic controllers and the pilot community. Visit our on-site activities page to find out more about what we have planned and claim your spot by pre-registering.

Online

Each day of Airside Safety Week will focus on safety topics pertaining to the different areas of airside operations. Employees can participate online by engaging with the educational material then testing their knowledge with the daily quiz for a chance to win great prizes.

Check out our daily content below, review the key safety reminders for each day, then take the quiz. Every day is a new chance to learn and to win!
