Healthy Programs and Tools
Enhanced cleaning and disinfection
- UV-C light cleaning units on handrails of selected escalators and moving walkways
- Focus on cleaning high-touch areas, such as kiosks, handrails, wheelchairs, and baggage carts
- Frequent cleaning and disinfection of terminal washrooms
- Three-level approach to cleaning using Tersano, Oxivir and Ultra-Lyte, as recommended by our contracted industrial hygienist
- Autonomous floor cleaners
- Hand sanitizer stations at key terminal locations, access points and other heavily travelled areas
Clean indoor air
- Upgraded MERV-13 filters in our HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system
- UV-C light arrays in select air handling units at the airport. Combined with our upgraded air filters, this innovative technology adds a new layer of defense against potentially harmful pathogens
- Successful trial with Blue Dot and Particle One to understand indoor airflow requirements to minimize respiratory viral risk based on number of people in spaces
- Check out the real-time indoor air quality
Contactless and low-touch technology
- Touchless bluetooth technology is being used for selected high-traffic elevators. Scan a QR code to control the elevators using a smartphone
- Touchless self-serve check-in kiosks and automated baggage drops are available in both terminals, which allow you to move quickly and seamlessly from the curb to security
- Low-touch kiosks and e-gates in the customs hall reduce the need to use common surfaces. This allows you to scan your travel documents and complete your declaration faster, with the help of the ArriveCAN mobile app
Options for your personal level of comfort
- Use one of the dozens of CleanSlateUV units throughout the airport that sanitize smartphones and other small electronic devices for free
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) cashless vending machines before security in both terminals to provide easy access to items such as face masks, hand sanitizer and wipes
Preparedness and innovation to keep you healthy
- In 2023, Pearson received Airports Council International’s (ACI) Public Health & Safety Readiness Accreditation, valid through to 2026. The Public Health & Safety Readiness accreditation provides airports with an assessment that evaluates how aligned their public health and safety measures are with the ACI Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and the ICAO Council's Aviation Recovery Taskforce (CART) recommendations, along with other industry best practices.
- We have partnered with BlueDot to monitor and manage risk from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. The Toronto-based technology firm’s outbreak risk software acts as an early warning system, allowing the airport community to be proactive in mitigating exposure to infectious diseases that threaten human health, security, and prosperity.
