    Q: Do I need to be a professional runner to participate?
    A: This is a fun event for everyone. You can join us for the run or for walk!

    Q: How do I register?
    A: We partner with The Running Room and on-line registration is coordinated through its website. Please click here to be re-directed to the online sign-up page. Registration is required in advance. Due to security requirements we cannot accommodate people on site who have not pre-registered.

    Q: Can family and friends attend the event if they have not registered as runners?
    A: Due to the security requirements of hosting this event on airport property, attendees of all ages must pay for registration if they plan on attending Runway Run, either as a participant or a spectator.

    Q: How do I register my child when the drop down menu only has two options – youth and adult?
    A: Youth is applicable to anyone aged 5 years old and younger. Please select that option when registering for the race. The cost for the youth registration is $10.

    Q: Should I create an account on the Running Room website in order to register on-line?
    A: We strongly recommend creating an account on the Running Room website before registering. This will make it easier to change participant names and add or edit any information. It’s a small step at the beginning that saves a lot of time down the line.

    Q: What if I didn’t create an account when registering and now need to make changes?
    A: Please contact our race director if you did not create an account and need to make changes. Please note, it will take longer to make any changes if you have not created an account. We strongly recommend creating an account in advance.

    Q: I have registered but can no longer participate. Can I get a refund or transfer my registration?
    A: You can transfer your registration to a friend or family member simply by giving them your registration confirmation email. When they come to Race Kit Pickup, ask that they provide the name of the original registrant, and we will make the necessary changes. As the proceeds from this event go to the Propeller Project, Toronto Pearson’s community investment program, refunds are not available.

    Q: I have signed up for the 5K run, but have decided I would like to take part in the 2K walk instead. How can I transfer my registration?
    A: As participants are walked out to the runway, you can simply join the walkers. It’s that easy. We want you to enjoy this experience! Please note that the fees are different for 2K and 5K participants and we cannot refund the difference.

    Q: Can I pick up my race kit in advance?
    A: Race kits must be picked up in advance. They can be picked up at the following locations:

    Q: Can someone else pick up my race kit for me?
    A: Yes, when they come to Race Kit Pickup they will have to show your registration confirmation with the name of the original registrant. They will also have to show their I.D. so we can track who picked up the race kit.

    Q: How can I get to the race location?
    A: The Run takes place on Runway 06R-24L, but kick-off starts at our Airside Maintenance Facility (AMF). From there, you will be escorted to the runway. The AMF is located at 3045 Electra Court. There will be plenty of signage once onsite to direct you to parking. Mississauga Transit or TTC will take you to the corner of Convair Drive and Renforth Drive. From there it is about a seven-minute walk to the building location.

    Q: Is there parking available?
    A: Yes, however parking is limited and offered on a first-come first-served basis. Participants may have to park a short distance away from the building. Space fills up quickly, so carpooling and public transportation is recommended.

    Q: What can I expect the day of the race?
    A: You can expect a one-of-a-kind experience of being on an airfield, running on a runway, with planes landing and taking off on the runway beside you. Of course, this is an event on a runway at Canada’s busiest airport, so there are a lot of logistical and security considerations. 

     7:30 – Welcome Centre Opens - enjoy some music while you have food and refreshments, visit some booths and complete the check-in process.
     8:30 – Security Briefing and Warm Up (we ask all participants be present for the security briefing)
     9:00 – Runway Run Starts
    11:00 – Closing remarks + prizes

    Q: What happens if it rains on race day?
    A: The Runway Run can take place if it rains, however, it may be delayed up to two hours. If after two hours the weather has not let up, the run will be cancelled. The delay or cancellation will be communicated on event day via Toronto Pearson’s Facebook and Twitter pages. In the event a cancellation, registration fees will not be refunded and will be contributed to community development programs through the Propeller Project.

    Q: What happens if there is a thunderstorm on race day?
    A: If there is lightning or any unsafe weather conditions the run will be cancelled. If there is a cancellation, it will be communicated on event day via Toronto Pearson’s Facebook and Twitter pages. In the event a cancellation, registration fees will not be refunded and will be contributed to community development programs through the Propeller Project.

    Q: What is the official measurement of the course?
    A: The runners will complete a 5K marked course, while the walkers will complete a 2K course. As the event takes place on the runway, it is a completely flat, straight surface.

    Q: Is this a chipped event?
    A: The 5K is a timed run, all 5K run participants will received chipped bibs for the race.

    Q: Do participants receive a medal?
    A: Yes. All participants, both walkers and runners, will receive a medal upon completion of their event.

    Q: What if I just want to come out and cheer on my family or friends?
    A: To see them out on the runway, we ask that you register as a walker. You will receive a t-shirt and bib number and will have access to the runway. You are not required to participate in the walk, but can enjoy the festivities, see the planes and cheer on your family or friends. Please note, there is no spectator section. If you are accompanying participants without having registered, you will be welcome to enjoy the festivities in the Airfield Maintenance Facility, but will not be able to head out to the runway.

    Q: Can we bring a stroller or a wagon?
    A: Yes, if the child is registered as a participant in the event. Kids 5 and under can register for $10.

    Q: Can I roller blade or bike the race course?
    A: Only runners and walkers will be permitted on the runway, as roller blades or bicycles can be hazardous for other participants.

    Q: Are wheelchairs allowed in the race or walk?
    A: Yes, we encourage everyone to come participate! Please note that we do not have wheelchairs or device walkers available, individuals must bring their own.

    Q: Can I bring my dog to the race?
    A: The only animals permitted at the event are service animals. However, a participant requiring a service animal must remain with their animal at all times, or ask an accompanying family member or friend to remain with the animal. For their safety, the animal must always be on a leash.

    Q: Is there anywhere to store my personal belongings on site?
    A: We encourage only bringing the personal belongings you can carry on your body, in a backpack, or a waist pouch, as there is no place to store them on site. Otherwise there is always the option of locking your belongings in your vehicle.

    Q: Can I bring my camera?
    A: Yes, please take photographs! However, tripods may only be used in the building and not on the runway. If you would like to take photos on the runway, please use a handheld camera that can be stored on your body.

    Q: Can I listen to music while I run the race?
    A: You are welcome to use listening devices for your pleasure however, please note that there are aircraft flying nearby and it may be difficult to hear any announcements if you are wearing headphones or ear buds.

    Q: Will there be food/drinks available or can we bring our own?
    A: There will be free water and fruit stations on site. Participants are allowed to bring their own food and drinks as long as they dispose of any garbage before leaving the Welcome Centre – potential debris is not permitted on the airfield.

    Q: Do I need to bring my own water for this race?
    A: There will be water stations on course during race day with water available to all participants through cups or refillable bottles. You may wish to bring your own water bottles, but please remember there is nowhere to store extra personal belongings.

    Q: What prizes or awards are there for the participants? If I win, but can’t stay for the ceremony will I be contacted?
    A: All winners will be contacted, either onsite or after the event. There will be prizes for top runners and walkers.

    Q: What if I need to use the washroom during the run or walk?
    A: There are an ample amount of toilets available both inside and outside the event perimeter.
